What's with the name? Truthfully - I went to Bermuda a few years ago for a delivery (that never happened - the boat was practically sinking on its mooring) and wanted to take some business cards along to give to people I might meet. 'Andy Schell Sailing' was the obvious choice. But that condenses down to A.S.S., and we cannot have that. So, being that Dad taught me most of what I know, and provided most of the inspiration for my career (along with my Mom, Gail, who always told me 'Do what you love, and the money will follow!'), I put 'Father & Son Sailing' on my business cards instead.
Now that my website more or less represents my actual career, the name does not make so much sense anymore. Mostly, it is my wife Mia and I working together - on deliveries, on-event for the World Cruising Club and their various rallies, for Broadreach / Academic Treks as program co-leads (still our favorite job) and running sailing yachts together.

I bought the fathersonsailing.com domain a few years ago, and I am going to stick with it. It is a place to publish all of my writing (both personal and professional), a place to share some photos, a place to (hopefully) attract new business and a place that I enjoy working on when it is rainy outside. Yes, the name represents the close relationship I have with my Dad - but it should also include something about my wider family in general, for they are the ones supporting me in all this nonsense, and the ones who give me the courage to chase after these silly dreams of mine. My sister Kate plays a big role - and is following a dream of her own, teaching elementary school students with special needs. My Mom, of course, for spiritual and emotional support (and as occasional delivery crew!), and of course my beautiful wife Mia, who incredibly enjoys this lifestyle as much if not more than I do (she definitely complains a lot less when the conditions are less than ideal).
So thanks for visiting - check out my blog entries from the past few years, have a look at my published archive, buy my book (please!) and enjoy. I like working with friendly people and strive to do things the Right - with a capital 'R' - way, in all aspects of my life. I tend to forge close personal relationships with most of my clients, and think that is a nice way to live, experience people and experience the world. Contact me anytime at andy@fathersonsailing.com.
